Job Overview

The Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati (UC) seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor in clinical psychology who will contribute to the department's research, undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service missions. Our department includes faculty with nationally funded research programs focused on neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, health equity, couples and families, immigrant populations, and other research areas, so potential for collaboration is strong. We are seeking a colleague who will make contributions to the research and clinical training experiences we offer in our clinical psychology doctoral program. Outside of the Psychology Department, this position affords opportunities to collaborate on research efforts with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, UC College of Medicine, and local community agencies. UC is a diverse university community, and it is a vital part of our mission to help students from a wide range of backgrounds to succeed.

The department is particularly interested in increasing its existing strength in international studies in clinical psychology, with a focus on the cultural relevance of clinical psychology to global populations. We are currently seeking to expand our offerings of undergraduate courses in clinical psychology.

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach Psychology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching assignments will align with the candidate's expertise and interests and will include undergraduate teaching (such as but not limited to Theories of Clinical Intervention) and doctoral level teaching (such as but not limited to Multicultural Theories and Practices in Clinical Psychology).
  • Conduct an active program of research in areas including (but not limited to) diversity and cultural competencies in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, global clinical psychology, behavioral health, and the pedagogy of clinical psychology training. This includes maintaining a productive research agenda and disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other scholarly outlets, and seeking grant support for studies.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their research activities.
  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral students in the department's Behavioral Health Center.
  • Contribute to service at the departmental, university, and professional levels. This includes participating in departmental committees (such as Honors and Awards or Undergraduate Curriculum Committee) and engaging in professional activities such as journal peer review and service on committees within relevant professional organizations.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, all of the following:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • Completion of a one-year APA-accredited clinical internship in Psychology as part of a Ph.D. program.
  • License eligibility as a Psychologist in Ohio, as defined by Ohio's State Board of Psychology (
  • Evidence of expertise in the mental health field through scholarly works including 10 publications in peer-reviewed journals as primary author and 10 presentations at professional conferences.
  • Teaching experience as evidenced by experience serving as Instructor of Record for at least one course for at least one semester at both the undergraduate and doctoral levels, including one doctoral course related to clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Successful funding experience as evidenced by applying for and receiving one grant for research in the field of Psychology.
  • Completed at least one year of a postdoctoral research training fellowship.
